Adobe Prelude CS6 is a brand-new application for Windows and Mac that shipped last week with the rest of the Adobe CS6 update. According to Adobe’s website: “Adobe® Prelude™ CS6 software streamlines your production tasks. Ingest nearly any file-based format and begin logging immediately, creating searchable markers and other temporal metadata that flow through post-production, so you can work faster and stay organized.” (Read More)

Doug has been following the ‘NLE Wars’ with quite a bit of interest for some time now. Like many, folks who have been using FCP for years, including all of his own current work work, as well as a number of feature films in the past, He is very concerned about the end-of-life for FCP/FC Studio in the wake of the release of FCP X, and he's really, really, not motivated to switch to another platform. Switching costs time, switching costs money. Switching means that a video that could take a half a (Read More)

Clay wrote this originally for lafcpug in 2010.

We've been very active over the past few months in LinkedIn group discussions. There are several really great groups with very knowledgable professionals participating. Some of the groups you can find us in include Video Editors, Digital Video Editing, Adobe Premiere, Creative COW, Avid, EDIUS professional users, Film TV Professionals, Post Production Professionals, FCPUG Netwrok Community and Final Cut Pro Video Editing. What I like so much about Linked In groups is that they tend to be filled (Read More)

Overall, with the release of CS6, Adobe have delivered us an awesomely powerful set of tools, with many useful, time-saving and creative features that far surpass what many other 'software suites' offer. The wheel has not been re-invented here, but the tyre's been upgraded, the rim strengthened and the alloy very much pimped! (Ed: please...no more metaphors!) Here at Fraktiv - and through our new venture at geebeebee media - we're already putting CS6 through its paces on several more edits (Read More)

Last week Rich wrote about his decision to switch from FCP7 to a combination of Premiere Pro and Media Composer instead of FCP X. Since then, Adobe released Premiere Pro CS6 (along with all the other CS6 tools) and a number of people have published first looks or accounts of switching to the increasingly popular NLE. Here is an annotated roundup of the best of those articles, as well as, some resources on how to get started if you are unfamiliar with Premiere Pro. (Read More)

Adobe is making a big play for Final Cut Pro users with their CS6 release of Premiere Pro. It’s vastly improved over the Premiere Pro of old and is a lot like Final Cut Pro. There’s even a keyboard shortcut layout for Final Cut Pro users. But it is a totally different application than our old Final Cut friend and some things you’re used to in Final Cut Pro either aren’t there or just work differently. Figure out the differences and work with the changes as Premiere Pro CS6 is a great application (Read More)

I know what you all are asking yourselves: “What did Shane edit that NAB wrap-up video with?” Plenty of you asked on Twitter, and I know you WOULD have asked on my blog in the comments…but I offered up the information before you could. Because I knew you’d ask. So yes, I used Adobe Premiere CS5.5 to start the edit…mainly the inputting and organization part…and pulling the selects I wanted to use. (Read More)

Philip learnt to edit tape to tape about 16 years ago at Sky News whist working as a News Cameraman. It made his camerawork SO much better. It was a great way to learn to edit. No “Apple Z”, you had to make hard decisions and stick with them. You also had to be FAST. (Read More)

As a long-time Final Cut Pro user, David Lawrence has been looking for a new NLE, since FCPX isn't an option for his editing style and needs. When word leaked out of a CS6 trial release, David took Premiere Pro 6 for a spin. And WOW! is what his impressions were. Read on for more details. (Read More)

Being a Final Cut Pro 7 editor converting to Premiere Pro I had a laundry list of things that I was hoping would be added to CS6, several of which I figured were no brainers in order to to fix up an editing program which was most of the way there but still had a ton of really odd and un-user friendly design choices. So of my list what has been fixed and what has not? (Read More)

Adobe recently announced the new CS6 versions of its production tools. 100 ACRE FILMS has been an all Adobe shop since it started, and we’re very excited about what’s included in the latest versions. They say don’t knock it before you try it. And sure enough, until recently, I have been fairly open to the idea of adopting Final Cut Pro X as my NLE of choice. But I have just delivered my first project cut exclusively on FCP X and must say it was a completely unpleasant experience. "Everything just changed in post", is the tagline for FCP X on Apple's website. It sure did: for the first time in 9 years as a professional editor I actually didn’t enjoy editing. (Read More)

Adobe launches CS6 Production Premium with a revamped UI, a faster and more efficient After Effects, and SpeedGrade – a professional color grading application

It goes without saying that the production industry has seen some significant changes in the past couple of years. Disruptive camera technology (RED ONE, Canon 5D Mark II, etc.) has created a new industry in which low-budget filmmakers can now compete with studios in delivering a professional looking film.
