Recently I’ve been getting a lot of performance questions from Mac users about using Premiere Pro editing systems with ATI/AMD graphics cards. No question this has been “sparked” by Apple’s recent series of MacBook Pro Laptops featuring Thunderbolt and a 1GB AMD Radeon 6750 graphics card. Below is a link (Click picture) to show the Mercury Playback Engine running on the new Apple MacBook Pro 17” Thunderbolt laptop in 64 bit CPU mode or what’s also known as Mercury Software mode (Read More)

For years we have been recommending NVIDIA Quadro professional graphics boards to our professional customers who demand the highest level of performance, reliability and stability. In a nut shell, many tech support issues we run into are graphics card related. While you may be able to save some bucks going with a gaming card, we feel confident that if you (Read More)

OK Mac guys, I found this link to InsanelyMac forums from Twitter. So far it looks like a solid hack. Basically it adds your nVidia Cuda equipped GPU to thte list of Mercury playback cards. SWEET!! I know it is simple, I know it is exactly the same as with windows, but I am writing this guide because I know there are several other guides around but these are "windows only" and for some people this guide might just simply help: (Read More)

MacDirectory talked to Gary Bettan, who bills himself at "The Videoguy" and he explained Videoguys' emphasis on customer service. "We're all videographers ourselves. We deal with this equipment every day, and I don't mean watching demos, we actually edit video ourselves." This expertise means that users, from the novice to the expert, can get real-time advice on everything from the best equipment to buy, to how to enhance or improve what they already have. (Read More)

Day by day, bit by bit your Mac has got slower and slower. You don’t really notice because it has happened so gradually. Until one day you have a chance to use another machine, that’s when you realize what your beloved Mac has become, as slow as an asthmatic ant carrying some heavy shopping. (Read More)

Last year, at the IBC trade show, I had someone come up to me and say, "You know, Premiere Pro CS4 looks absolutely fantastic! Unfortunately, I'm a Final Cut Pro editor, and can't use it." I inquired further, thinking it was a training issue, and he told me that since he defines himself as an FCP editor, he won't use other NLE tools. I was left speechless. (Read More)

This month we’ll look at the AVCHD format and how it fits into your Final Cut Pro workflow. This relatively new, H.264-based video format is showing up on many new cameras, so chances are you will come in contact with it in the future—if you haven’t already. To work with AVCHD, you will need Final Cut Studio 2 or the latest version of iMovie. We will look at how to capture footage in both. Since the footage is already on a hard drive or memory card, this process is more like a hard drive transfe (Read More)
