Before coming to Adobe my preferred tool for editing was FCP. Premiere CS4 was installed as part of master collection. Back then every time I had to use it, I didn’t like it – It wasn’t better than FCP and it did things differently – so I ignored it.

Then jump ahead in time and I am interviewing for the job as AE product manager, and I was honest in my interviews of what I thought about Premiere when asked about it. Where they had me though? – I hadn’t even tried the latest version. Read More

You've no doubt been reading a lot about what's new, what's missing, what's inspired and what's still mystifying in the radically overhauled and rebuilt Final Cut Pro X. So have we. On Thursday I met with Apple and brought with me the litany of concerns voiced by current FCP 7 users in comments and in posts on our site, on Twitter, and in the great Web beyond. In two hours, I saw the specifics of a platform and environment with tremendous potential in action and got many of my questions answered Read More

Let’s cut to the chase – Final Cut Pro needed to be re-written. It needed to be 64-bit, it needed to be Cocoa (esoteric, but basically that means it would have access to all the good stuff in the latest versions of Mac OS X, rather than being stuck with 2007 technology). It probably needed a more up-to-date user interface, though with 2 million existing users, that was bound to cause an uproar. Read More

Final Cut Pro X (version 10.0) arrived 8:30 a.m. yesterday morning at the App Store for $299, unleashing torrents of criticism about missing features and a perceived drift from professional product to one that consumers might find friendlier. So far, so good. Let me explain. Read More

FCP X decisions News Opinions Jun23 Tags Related Posts Share This FCP X decisions Posted by Dylan Reeve on Jun 23, 2011 in News, Opinions | 5 comments The new Final Cut Pro X is now available to the public for less than a third of the price of the discontinued FCP 7 suite it replaces. But if you had to edit a television show with FCP X today, you would probably be struggling because, aside from the name, the new application doesn’t really share a lot in common with th Read More

It started with the bizarre announcement that a team from Apple was taking over the LAFCPUG Supermeet at NAB. Nearly 2000 FCP users gathered to hear what they presumed would be the unveiling of the next version of Final Cut Studio or at least a new Final Cut Pro 8. What they got was a glimpse of a wholly new application, completely unlike the Final Cut Pro many had known for more than 10 years. It resembled iMovie more than it did FCP. It would be a new standalone application, delivered over the Read More

One of my main applications for Vegas Pro software is editing video reports from trade shows, where the priority is speed—turnaround is crucial. In the process, I've learned some useful efficiency tips.

Prepare in advance.
Create intros, outros, theme music, and templates before you go. A well-produced intro sets the tone for a video; don't spend hours doing that on site. Read More

If you are a Final Cut Pro editor, unless you've been living in a cave up in the hills, you have heard all the hype about FCPX, the next generation of Final Cut Pro. I'm intentionally not calling the product Final Cut Pro ver 10, because it isn't a next version of Final Cut at all. It is a completely new application. They could have called it Norman or Wolf or Orange, because it is a brand new editing app called FCPX. When it ships it will be version 1.0 of FCPX, and with it will come all the Read More

Why should YOU upgrade your video editing system and what is the best upgrade for you?

There are several reasons to upgrade your video editing system. Like most technological advances, the video editing systems available today are faster, more stable, easier to use, and capable of higher-quality then some of those made as recently as six-months ago!

Do you want to take advantage of the increased speed and productivity of today's 64-bit systems with more realtime transitions and spec Read More

First off Final Cut Pro X is a new application. It is not an update to FCP 7. I think that many, including me, will continue to use FCP 7 along with FCP X after FCP X arrives. I hope that there is a workflow between FCP 7 and FCP X. Read More

Editing software manufacturers continue to expand features by adding native support for a variety of new camera codecs. EDIUS 6, the newest version of Grass Valley’s primary editing platform advances this endeavor.

EDIUS 6 is exclusively a Windows-based NLE, running under a wide range of configurations. I was able to test it on a new HP EliteBook 8740w with the Windows 7 64-bit Professional OS installed. This is a robust, top-of-the-line mobile workstation with more horsepower than most de Read More
