The range of the video editing software market has been remarkably stable over the past decade or so, with a clear divide between "consumer" tools in the $50 to $100 to $150 range, and "professional" tools from the likes of Adobe, Apple, Avid and Sony, starting at around $700 to $800. Read More

When you think of Adobe's Creative Suite software, "inexpensive" is not the first word that comes to mind. Its flagship (and most famous) app, Photoshop, can cost from $699 to $999 to buy new—and that's just by itself. The collections of various apps (also bought new) run from $1,299 for the relatively modest Design Standard to $2,599 for the everything-and-the-kitchen-sink Master Collection. True, you can save hundreds of dollars if you're upgrading from previous versions. Read More

Today, 512 days after the last update, Apple introduced the new lineup of speed-bumped Mac Pros and further established their abandonment of the professional community. Now, I don’t say this to be inflammatory – far from it. As a professional user in the truest sense, I eat, sleep and breathe things like this. I work in an industry that simply requires the use of a Mac… no ifs, ands or buts. No Windows, no Linux, no hackintoshes, no excuses. To the millions that love their Macs, it’s an e Read More

OK Mac guys, I found this link to InsanelyMac forums from Twitter. So far it looks like a solid hack. Basically it adds your nVidia Cuda equipped GPU to thte list of Mercury playback cards. SWEET!! I know it is simple, I know it is exactly the same as with windows, but I am writing this guide because I know there are several other guides around but these are "windows only" and for some people this guide might just simply help: Read More

Well Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 has arrived, and has really upped the ante on performance… blowing the competition out of the water. Like a lot of the other products in the CS5 line, the big deal is that Premiere Pro is now 64 bit only. Of course this means you'll need a 64 bit processor, and 64 bit version of Windows or Mac OS to run it. This may be a downside for some folks out there, but for others, it's the first non-linear editing software to really make use of your computer's full potential. Read More

Now, once you hit play, there is no lag, no stuttering just crystal clear HD video playing in sync with your timeline. I really don't know what else I can say. The MXO2 mini was awesome, and the unit worked like a charm, and now with support for Adobe's CS5 , as well as Final Cut Studio (Final Cut Pro and Color), this unit is one that any editor working in HD that doesn't have a way to monitor their footage on an external source NEEDS to check out. I couldn't find one performance problem wit Read More

Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 ($799 list new, $299–$699 list upgrade) may not look much different from previous versions, but don't let appearances fool you. As with all the Creative Suite 5 applications, much has been changed, tweaked, and optimized under the hood to make Adobe's professional-targeted film- and video-editing application (along with its companion programs, OnLocation and Encore) more useful than ever. The big story is native 64-bit operation for all of the applications, which requires a 64-bit OS (Windows Vista/7 or Mac OS X "Snow Leopard") running on a processor that supports 64-bit operation. The upside of thi Read More

CS5 is among Adobe's most significant upgrades to the Production Premium bundle ever.

As video editors, we have patiently waited (and waited and waited) for tools that are as quick as our clicks and keystrokes. But performance gains in past versions of Adobe's Creative Suite have been mostly incremental. After testing one of the very latest pre-release versions, we can say that CS5 is nothing less than revolutionary. Our wait is over. Read More
