Philip learnt to edit tape to tape about 16 years ago at Sky News whist working as a News Cameraman. It made his camerawork SO much better. It was a great way to learn to edit. No “Apple Z”, you had to make hard decisions and stick with them. You also had to be FAST. Read More

Being a Final Cut Pro 7 editor converting to Premiere Pro I had a laundry list of things that I was hoping would be added to CS6, several of which I figured were no brainers in order to to fix up an editing program which was most of the way there but still had a ton of really odd and un-user friendly design choices. So of my list what has been fixed and what has not? Read More

They say don’t knock it before you try it. And sure enough, until recently, I have been fairly open to the idea of adopting Final Cut Pro X as my NLE of choice. But I have just delivered my first project cut exclusively on FCP X and must say it was a completely unpleasant experience. "Everything just changed in post", is the tagline for FCP X on Apple's website. It sure did: for the first time in 9 years as a professional editor I actually didn’t enjoy editing. Read More

The Post PC era
Tim Cook, the new head of Apple, now refers to the current technology trend as the “post PC era.” I happen to agree with him when he talks about the people who use technology to view, watch and participate in media. But, when it comes to actually creating, managing and working with media, we still need the strongest most powerful machines.

The Post Apple era in Post
Since Apple pulled the plug on FCP and decided to go after the masses with FCPX the video editing ind Read More

Adobe launches CS6 Production Premium with a revamped UI, a faster and more efficient After Effects, and SpeedGrade – a professional color grading application

It goes without saying that the production industry has seen some significant changes in the past couple of years. It wasn’t an overly complex edit, a 3 minute piece shot on RED with interviews and b-roll. He cut the offline and it will then go to an After Effects artist for some fancy graphics and Baselight for color grading. As he was taking notes on the new version of Premiere Pro for an upcoming review he thought it might be interesting to jus Read More
