Remember all the brouhaha that erupted just a week or so before the NAB 2011 FCPUG SuperMeet when Apple took over the event to preview Final Cut Pro X, thereby kicking out all the other presenters who had planned their own demos and paid for sponsorships? Here we are six months later and it’s time for another SuperMeet, this time scheduled for September 11 at the The Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky in Amsterdam during IBC. Read More

There are about 85 emails in my in-box this morning with links to a speech I gave at the April Final Cut Pro User Group about my reactions to Apple’s presentation of Final Cut at NAB.

First off Final Cut Pro X is a new application. It is not an update to FCP 7. I think that many, including me, will continue to use FCP 7 along with FCP X after FCP X arrives. I hope that there is a workflow between FCP 7 and FCP X. Read More

While Apple may have stolen a lot of the buzz from NAB with their Sneak Peak of Final Cut Pro X at the FCPUG Supermeet, that didn’t mean that the rest of the industry sat quietly on the sidelines. Avid, Adobe, Grass Valley and others all had their own updates to talk about. In fact, it looks like we’re entering the first stage of a war for marketshare among the three Big “A”s of editing, Apple, Adobe and Avid. While Apple fired the first shot with their FCPX Sneak Peak, Avid and Adobe still hav (Read More)

One of the big stories leading up to NAB2011 was the rumor that Apple had taken over the FCPUG SuperMeet and that they would be showing a sneak peak of the new Final Cut Pro X. Apple didn’t just take over the SuperMeet, they took over NAB. You could not go to a booth or have a meeting without people talking about FCP X. There was a lot of speculation over what would be announced and what exciting news Apple had up their sleeve. (Read More)
